Agate Fluorescent

Agates are varieties of chalcedony that are formed by the gradual deposition of siliceous solutions in cavities within the host rock. A gray color and banded pattern are typical. Pure quartz or chalcedony itself usually does not fluoresce. In this agate, we can observe a striking green fluorescence under UV light - this is caused by the presence of uranium compounds and ions that entered its structure during its formation from the surrounding environment. Sometimes, green fluorescence can also be caused by organic inclusions, carbonaceous materials, or other trace-amount rare-earth minerals. Agate deposits are abundant worldwide. The largest and most famous ones are located in Brazil, Botswana, or China, which is where our stones originate.
