There are about fifteen variants of garnet, differing in their colour – the most popular are pyrope (red), almandine (red-purple), grossular (green) and spessartine (orange). If we look at its chemical structure, garnets are a group of important rock-forming minerals of silicates, containing aluminium, iron, calcium, magnesium, manganese, chromium and other elements. Spessartine is named after Spessart mountains in Germany. It is a translucent mineral with a striking brown-red to orange colour.
