Obsidian alias volcanic glass is a material with a unique formation, during which hot lava cools rapidly, e.g. in water or on the Earth’s surface. The process is so fast that the individual minerals do not have enough time to crystalize. This piece is from Mexico.

Stone´s uniqueness: Mocca obsidian is a charming, brown-black variety of obsidian. The stone is a result of a merge of two, chemically different, lava varieties. One of these lavas was richer in ore microlites, iron and manganese – that is why mocca obsidian has beautiful black spots.

Special conditions/ treatment: Obsidian is stable against most acids. However, be careful when handling with the stone, as it is fragile.

Use: Mini tumbled stones (chips) are used for the production of various decorative items and ornamental mosaics. Size up to 5 mm is also suitable as filling for small glass bottles.

About the product: We offer this product in 1 kg or 5 kg package; some "chips" are available in both variants. The product is packed in firm plastic bags.
