Orthoceras Plaque

Orthoceras is an extinct cephalopod that lived 350-400 millions years ago in the shallow seas of the present-day Morocco (in the Erfoud site). The name means straight horn, referring to its characteristic long, straight, conical shell. The petrified shell of the animal is preserved in black limestone, which copies the shape of the animal. Polished limestone fossils are left grown in a sedimentary rock.
