Ruby is captivating for its marvellous red to purple shades, which are influenced by a small (0,4 %) chromium oxide portion in the stone’s structure. Its name refers to the Latin word rubeus, which perfectly reflects its red colour. The leading producer of ruby is Myanmar, but large deposits are also in Sri Lanka, Thailand, Cambodia or Madagascar.

If we look at its chemical structure, ruby is a gemstone variety of aluminium oxide.
