Anthophyllite is a mineral from the amphibole group with a high content of magnesium and iron. It is brownish-gray to greenish-gray in color and most often forms fibrous or columnar aggregates, sometimes with a golden luster. Iridescence can sometimes be observed rarely in anthophyllite, which is an optical phenomenon where rainbow colors appear on the surface of minerals, changing depending on the angle of light incidence. Garnet, along with anthophyllite, commonly occurs in metamorphic rocks (especially in amphibolites). Chemically, it is most often a reddish-brown almandine with a high iron content. The combination of anthophyllite with garnet is limited to a relatively small number of deposits in Scandinavia (Norway and Finland), as well as in the Ural Mountains region of Russia and in North Carolina, USA. Areas with the occurrence of this mineralogical association are also found in the Czech Republic, specifically in the Jeseníky Mountains.
